The Iliad Summer School 2024: “Exploring Digital Twins of the Ocean – New tools for innovation and sustainability” offers an immersive and innovative program designed to dive deep into the cutting-edge field of digital ocean modelling. The summer school will bring together students, researchers and professionals from diverse disciplines to explore the dynamic and transformative concept of digital twins in ocean science.
The course is aimed at graduate (Masters/PhD) students, and early career scientists in the fields of Marine ecology, Oceanography, Environmental monitoring, Remote sensing, Marine/Oceanic engineering, Data science and Artificial Intelligence (AI). Participants will engage with leading experts through a series of lectures and collaborative projects, gaining insights into the latest technologies and methodologies used in creating and utilising digital twins of the ocean.
Summer School Program
The program will cover topics such as:
- Data acquisition, processing and management: Learn about the data life cycle, the different types of data that goes into a digital twin of the ocean and how to make them interoperable.
- Numerical modelling: Ocean modelling with heterogeneous data, diverse tools for ocean data modelling
- The tools needed to create a digital twin of the ocean: Introduction to some of the frequently used tools along the value chain of digital twins of the ocean. OGC standards, Python, Docker, other.
- ICT technology (use of platforms, AI, Machine learning): Iliad uses a variety of platforms, including NextGEOSS, Global Ocean Platform, GeoMachine.
Whether a marine scientist, data analyst, environmental policy maker, or technology enthusiast, the Iliad Summer School 2024 offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of this rapidly evolving field.
